“‘As you know, CBC.ca’s message boards experienced a technology failure earlier this year. While the technology failure cannot be resolved, it has, however, given us the opportunity to explore options for other ways to interact with our audience that meet both industry best practice and, most importantly, the needs of our online audience.’
Due to the fact that message boards are technologically very easy to implement can you explain the real reason that the message boards were removed?”
Good question.
The boards were actually a lot of work – they required full-time moderators to read and vet. Even then, there was some things that they missed. The boards were a real headache for the managers and created a lot of controversy.
So when they broke, managers took that as their cue to shut them down forever.
