As a Producer- Assignment, you assist in the production of stories and segments for local and network radio, television and online newsgathering. Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices and the Producer is ultimately responsible for ensuring that this occurs. There may be wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity. There is a regular and ongoing requirement to co-ordinate the work of others.
As required, you will perform the following tasks:
- Conceive and develop story and program ideas and concepts; participate in the preparation of newscasts/programs and the objectives of the newsgathering hub;
- Plan, organize and co-ordinate the newscasts/programs or the components and/or segments of newscasts/programs;
- Develop the program content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing.
- As required, commission writing and/or research.
- Prepare scripts.
- Determine the style, pace, tempo, line-up and format of the program.
- Direct on-air talent and technical resources across all platforms;
- Select, re-write and/or edit copy or text written by others.
We are looking for a candidate who has the following qualifications:
- At least five years of experience whereby three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely-related industry, which is directly related to the area of assignment;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain close cooperation with your program unit;
- Strong interpersonal skills, highly creative and resourceful;
- Story-teller with a sophisticated understanding of Manitoba’s diverse communities.
This position will not be filled until consideration has been made by the CBC/CMG Local Joint Employment Committee.
