Your role:
- On a continuing and ongoing basis writes, lines up, and presents a blend of local, regional, national, and international news on radio, several times per hour.
- Demonstrates and maintains a high degree of organizational and presentation skills coupled with an ability to focus and work on a quick turnaround basis to tight deadlines.
- Work adheres to CBC journalistic and programming policies, standards and practices.
- Advice and guidance are available but initiative and independent judgement are expected.
- Work can involve the co-ordination of the activities of others and close co-operation with the program unit is essential.
Key Tasks:
- Using various sources gathers news stories prepared by CBC Reporters at local, regional, national, and international locations.
- Prepares, determines the lineup of, and reads the hourly newscasts on air.
- Facilitates the flow and sharing of news among local/regional newsrooms and the National Hub.
- Re-writes material as necessary to make it more relevant to a local/regional audience.
As required, perform the following tasks:
- performs technical functions required to self-operate the on-air presentation of hourly newscasts and, when and where required, the half hourly news headline breaks
- prepares and reads news headlines on the half hour;
- obtains and presents on-air, a brief weather capsule and temperatures for the broadcast area;
- using the Hotsheet or similar source material, promote upcoming CBC programming;
- performs live de-briefs of reporters in the field and/or reports on breaking news;
files the log for each newscast; - edits incoming feeds as necessary;
- loads voice clips into computer for insertion into the newscast;
- prepares news for posting to the appropriate CBC web site;
- editing copy for radio news, Tv news, and the web;
- assuming an assignment role at times of day when producer is absent
any task of a Reporter/Editor
Education Required: University degree or equivalent
Experience Required:
- Minimum of four years of journalistic experience including work that demonstrates a high degree of presentation skills
- At least 1 year of experience in writing, editing, lining up and reading newscasts

- Demonstrated excellence in writing for radio
- Strong journalist with sound editorial judgment
- Strong research skills and ability to gather information from a variety of sources
- A clear understanding and ability to lineup both local and blended newscasts
- Sound news judgment with an awareness of issues that have an impact on the lives of people living in Saskatchewan
- Strong technical and production skills, and an aptitude for editing on DALET
- Knowledge and understanding of the CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic
- Standards and Practices
- Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada English programming
- Strong abilities, written and oral, in English.
- Strong critical thinker.
- Ability to assume a journalistic leadership role.
- Strong and authoritative on-air presence, showing credibility, energy and clarity in delivery.
- Ability to become an integral part of the on-air team on the morning show.
- Speedy execution of work with very tight deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines.
- Ability to develop a wide body of sources in order to accurately reflect the Saskatchewan region.
- Ability to work independently as well as with members of the radio production team.
- Self-starter and problem solver. Must demonstrate enterprise, initiative and ability to generate ideas.
- Quick-witted with strong sense of humour.
This position will not be filled until consideration has been made by the CBC/CMG Local Joint Employment Committee.
