We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative professional with the ability to contribute their design talents to the Digital Content Group team. You will have the opportunity to design websites and website graphical elements to support original Canadian television programs in the Factual Entertainment, Arts and Entertainment and Documentaries genres, as well as designing websites, contests, ad media and interactive campaigns for sponsorship initiatives through CBC’s Media Sales & Marketing department.
You’ll bring your passion for great web design with the ability to balance stakeholder and client objectives in every project. You are flexible and patient when requirements change, but wave the flag of usability, user-centered design and best practices at every step. You understand optimal design workflows for non-destructive editing techniques in Photoshop and other web design applications and have an understanding of how your designs will be implemented by a developer.
You’re a positive, flexible and passionate contributor to a team of interactive professionals. You describe yourself as a designer, but you also bring an interest in content production. Depending on the project, your responsibilities may also extend to writing and/or editing text, moderation, or other types of content publishing and production.
Key Tasks:
- Approximately 50% of your time will be devoted to designing sponsor lead campaigns for the Media Sales & Marketing department including websites, contests, ad media and other interactive campaigns.
- The other approximate 50% of your time will be on website design and content work to support entertainment television shows, online. This includes designing website graphics, buttons, promotional images and websites.
- Prepare design prototypes and online creative concepts, which adhere to wireframes, grid sizes or other restrictions
- Evaluates material to determine if it meets approved technical and aesthetic standards.
- Provides input to the estimating process for design elements.
- Ensures design deliverables are completed on time and in scope
- Performs all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.
- Depending on the project, some content production and publishing including possibly writing, blogging, moderation, community management or other types of content.
What You Bring:
- University degree in an arts/design-related field, or equivalent experience
- Ability to design web graphics from scratch, and design websites based on wireframes
- Ability to balance competing priorities and stakeholder objectives
- Excellent Photoshop skills in terms of design, organization of layers and files and adherence to non-destructive design techniques
- Understanding of grid design and page layout
- Understanding of interaction design/ interaction architecture
- Solid knowledge of industry norms and best practices related to of user-centric design techniques, and heuristic usability testing processes
- Passion for attention to detail, usability and consistency in every project, no matter how big or small
- Broad exposure to design and design styles
- Ability to articulate creative ideas effectively
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
- A customer-focused attitude that is committed to satisfying the vision of the client
- A talent for working under pressure and with multiple priorities
- Ability to develop a team rapport with the content team and internal clients
