We are looking for an experienced host for our weekend television news programming for Winnipeg. An exceptional journalist and leader, you thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of breaking news. The ability to go live and ‘off script’ at a moment’s notice is highly valued. In this part-time contract position, you will contribute to the planning, design and organization of the program, propose program ideas, conduct interviews off-air and interact with program participants.
Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will play an integral editorial and leadership role in preparing and presenting the weekend news.
We are looking for candidates with the following:
- A journalism degree or equivalent;
- Five years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry and an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to Winnipeg and to daily news;
- Excellent reporting, interviewing and writing skills;
- Ability to generate original story ideas and creative treatments;
- An engaging on-air presence;
- The ability to evaluate and analyze a broad range of issues, and to tell those stories with clarity and in a manner that relates the stories to the people affected by them;
- Strong presentation style and ease with live work;
- Able to present material with credibility and authority in a range of situations including live events and breaking news;
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines;
- Strong interpersonal and team playing skills;
- Creative, flexible and self-motivated.
