Here’s your chance to help shape Canadian media by joining CBC as a permanent part time Producer of Special/High Impact Programming for current affairs in Calgary.

CBC/Radio-Canada has a diverse and creative workforce who thrives in an atmosphere of sharing and learning. CBC brings Canada to the people in English, French and eight aboriginal languages.

As Producer you will be responsible for initiating and executing long and short term major journalistic projects for CBC Radio in Calgary.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • A demonstrated understanding of journalistic practices in the broadcasting industry
  • Five years of related experience
  • Proven expertise in pitching and chasing interviews.
  • Ability to organize and complete large and complex projects.
  • Very strong journalistic skills.
  • A keen eye and ear for stories and story development in terms of both news and current affairs.
  • Proven radio production experience and journalistic background, including experience with story development, research, writing, preparing backgrounds, pre-interviewing.
  • Experience with different radio formats – talk/tapes, documentaries, other field production techniques
  • University degree or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of Calgary and Alberta and the issues facing residents
  • Independent, self-motivated, self-sufficient, combined with the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Highly developed leadership and coaching skills.
  • Skilled at coaching inexperienced employees, while also leading and challenging experienced journalists.
  • Bilingualism an asset.
  • TV experience an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
