From the desk of Doug Grant

Sent to me by Doug Grant in response to
an earlier post about what happened to Doug Grant.

Enjoy.

Many thanks to the Tea Makers and their correspondents for acknowledging my recent brief tenure at the CBC. I particularly appreciate the kind words about Studio 2, which was a blend of all the CBC programs, on radio and television, that I worked on and admired.

I have no idea what the future holds for current affairs at the CBC. But I do know how proud I am of the talented and tenacious journalists with whom I have had the privilege to work over the past two seasons. From the lottery expose and Mulroney-Schreiber on the fifth estate, to dirty hospitals and crooked condo deals on Marketplace, to Mississippi Cold Case and the persecution of gays in Iran on CBC News Sunday, we didn’t just cover the news, we made news. Programs like these helped set the national agenda. They represent the finest traditions of CBC journalism. And they were watched, and acted upon, by Canadians – in great numbers.

I would like to take issue, however, with the blogger who called me a double-dipping pensioner. Not! I have no CBC pension – and I am far from retiring. Until February 19, I was a CBC contract employee subject to 60 days notice without cause — minus the half-hour I was given to clear out my office (although I was allowed to come back for three hours a few days later).

What I am is a full-time journalist who still must, can and wants to work in the business I love. So … any freelance leads are much appreciated!

Cheers,
Doug Grant

Good post, Doug. But you forgot to mention you invented the Internet.

    Outstanding, Doug Grant.
Cleared up a lot for me. You’ve just added even more credibility to the earlier endorsement from Book of Don. So pleased to see you setting the record straight, not only in reference to yourself, but also in your reminder about the point of the exercise. Thanks for visiting with us.
