The flagship television program in Saskatchewan is part of an integrated news service across all media platforms – Television, Radio, and the Web. We want to provide our audiences with a distinct service that is timely, in-depth, accessible and relevant.
What You Do:
- As the Newscast Producer assigned to CBC News Saskatchewan, your primary objective is to plan, design, organize, develop and take the program to air.
- Your work is governed by CBC/Radio-Canada’s journalistic and programming policies, but there is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.
- Working with the Executive Producer you will determine the style, pace, tone, lineup and format of the program.
- You will develop program content including assigning, researching, gathering, writing and/or editing as well as preparing scripts.
- You will also supervisor and coordinate the work of staff contributing to the programs under your responsibility.
- During program preparation, production and post-production, you are responsible and accountable for exercising budget authority.
- Although this is primarily a TV assignment, there is an expectation to work in an integrated environment.
- You will be willing and capable of assisting with producing duties on the radio and web platforms as well.
What you bring:
- A university degree or equivalent.
- Five years’ experience of which three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry, which is directly related to the area of assignment.
- Proven journalistic depth and skills.
- Excellent knowledge of political, social, economic and national issues that pertain to Saskatchewan.
- Excellent understanding of CBC journalistic policies, standards and practices.
- Ability to work in a high pressure, tight deadline environment.
- Highly motivated and hard‑working.
- Strong and enthusiastic team player with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work proactively and provide leadership by example in a journalistic unit composed of highly talented professionals.
