What you do:
- Conceives, researches, develops and produces story items, and typically performs the associated editing functions in a fast paced environment.
- Work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices but there is latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.
- Occasionally, there may be a requirement to coordinate the work of others.
Key Tasks:
- Conceives and develops story ideas and concepts. Will participate in the preparation of program objectives.
- Develops the story content including the researching, writing and/or editing of written material.
- Determines the style, pace, tempo and format of the story item.
- Develops shot list and sequences that contribute to the focus and mood of the story.
- Ensures that the material produced meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editing.
- Edits, or directs the editing of recorded items on appropriate/available editing systems.
As required, performs the following tasks:
- perform final edit;
- arrange for, and conduct interviews;
- maintain a basic library of stock footage and archival information;
- provide talent and crew with feedback to assist their performance.
What you bring:
- Job requires a university degree or equivalent from a recognized program in journalism, electronics, media arts or related field.
- At least five years’ experience in an entertainment and news-programming environment, with an emphasis on producing and editing.
- A broad understanding and interest of contemporary cultural, social and political issues.
- Must have in-depth knowledge of Canadian and International news and current affairs.
- Strong creative skills with experience working on a daily talk show format.
- Editorial skills and knowledge to be able to identify potential news and current affairs stories.
- Highly developed skills with video cameras and Avid software.
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work with the Executive Producer, Senior Producer, peers and guests to produce high-quality stories.
- Self-starter with strong initiative, with the ability to work independently and have a positive attitude to solve urgent problems.
- Must have a passion innovative storytelling
- Must be able to solve problems independently and in group discussions
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Must be capable of original and creative thought in the production of television news and current affairs
- Experience working with tape and the ability to think creatively with visuals
- Proven ability to exercise strong editorial judgment under very tight deadlines.
- Well-honed communication skills to competently articulate ideas verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and an ability to motivate others to excel.
- Demonstrated ability to visually capture story concepts through the creative use of editing techniques.
- Able to work flexible hours.
