What You Do:
Reporting to the Director, Strategy and Planning, you will be responsible for data collection, manipulation, initial analysis and reporting of programming, financial and other types of organization performance metrics for CBC English Services (TV, Radio, New Platforms). These data represent public value metrics, audience measures, programming statistics (such as telecast or production hours), financial revenues and costs and Production Financing data. These data are derived in a variety of formats from internal sources. You will have the opportunity to provide ad hoc reporting as well as potential for further research, analysis and reporting tasks as required.
You will manage the establishment and maintainance of a database of confirmed performance targets by program or category definitions. This process will occur in a dynamic environment and tight deadlines. You will ensure the accuracy and timely receipt of data from a variety of internal sources and track adjustments as needed. You will have demonstrated success in the role by using your knowledge of performance targets and the broadcast industry to identify and solve problems with data values or formats. You will provide analysis and support in the development of new analytical methodologies.
What You Bring:
- Professional experience and/or training/education or equivalent in data management or related discipline(s).
- Excellent knowledge of computer software such as databases (required), word processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages (preferred).
- Excellent knowledge of the broadcasting industry in Canada from a programming , audience, financial and regulatory perspective.
- Knowledge of programming, public broadcasting, audience measurement and financial issues (e.g. scheduling issues, audience data, airtime revenue, financial treatment of program production and amortization) within the broadcasting industry and their impact on the Corporation.
- Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada polices and practices and of all levels and areas of the Corporation is an asset.
- Knowledge of the broadcasting industry in Canada from a programming, audience, financial and regulatory perspective is an asset.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and project management skills.
- Bilingualism is an asset.
- Requires creativity and ingenuity in: data flow management; suggesting alternative data format or new reporting methods as well as presentation of data; manipulation and compilation of information from a variety of sources and databases.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional cordial relations with employees at all levels and to present data clearly and effectively.
- Ability to handle high volumes of data from a variety of sources and to work to deadlines is essential.
- Flexibility in working hours as project demands warrant.
