We are currently searching for a positive, enthusiastic individual to join the Business Rights and Content Management Department at CBC as a Specialist, Contract Administration in the Business Affairs, Copyright Licensing Unit.

This position will offer the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to negotiate, prepare, administer, and authorize agreements, contracts, deal memos, licensing fees, and terms and conditions of agreements and/or payments, for departments and/or program areas within the CBC. If you have a willingness to take initiative, proactively identify and respond to requests, demonstrate the ability to prioritize effectively and exercise good judgment and discretion, this position is for you.

The Role:

As a valued team member the incumbent negotiates and authorizes any or all of the following: program rights contracts, licensing fees and the terms and conditions of agreements. In this role you will provide advice and guidance to departments and program areas regarding the applicability of various collective agreements, policies, copyright law and legislation and/or the rights relating to the broadcast or further use programming content.

As the Specialist, Contract Administration, you will be required to monitor the form and nature of contracts over time and make recommendations for changes in contracting language, format or practices. You will be responsible for determining CBC’s rights and obligations regarding broadcast and further use(s) for all program areas involved in, or considering the utilization of copyright materials, and developing and maintaining contacts with copyright owners, distributors of programming and outside industry organizations.

Other responsibilities of this role include:

  • Creating, inputting, maintaining data bases and contract/telecast management systems;
  • Assessing in-house, co-produced and independently produced programming rights issues;
  • Consulting with in-house producers on directions and concepts that may be applied/considered for licensing underlying rights in programming content;
  • Participating in the development of contracting strategies which will facilitate the achievement of CBC program objectives;
  • Negotiate and administer underlying rights agreement in conjunction with CBC multi-platform strategies

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • A University degree in a relevant discipline such as communication or radio and television arts, or the equivalent, in addition to five years’ directly related experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with business management practices in the broadcasting field
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Strong organizational and prioritizing skills, with the ability to be proactive and deadline oriented.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and independent judgment.
  • Strong computer aptitude with flexibility to learn new data retention systems.
