As an IT Telecom-Network Support Representative, you provide specialized first and second level IT and client support for our local television, radio and web production center IT infrastructure, computer systems, data networking systems, and voice systems.
What you do:
- As part of a team environment, you resolve most client problems and IT issues using your sound judgment to determine which of many methods is applicable in any given situation.
- You will respond to requests for assistance from clients, either directly or as relayed by colleagues, supporting the technology deployed including all IT infrastructure, telecommunications/networking infrastructure, structured data/voice cabling, related hardware and software products (ie routers, switches, WI-FI, servers, LAN/WAN hardware/software, applications, desktops, laptops, voice systems).
- You determine the source of concern and guide the client(s) through resolution and or initiate corrective measures where required (potential for third party intervention) and coordinate their support until resolution.
- You monitor LAN usage and performance with network management tools as well as analyze trends and data traffic, understanding data protocols and OSI model.
- You also will be responsible to identify problems and escalate and inform IT members as required.
- You follow industry IT standards with the performance of tasks and participate in reviews of network usage and performance statistics.
- You create and maintain complete and concise documentation on reported problems as well as documentation of IT infrastructure, structured cabling (fibre and copper), maintain local area network diagrams, rack layouts, floor plans, computer inventory, equipment configurations and procedures.
- You are also responsible for following the IT change management process.
- You will be required to perform routine backups and maintenance of IT systems as well as set up, configure, test and install hardware/software such as routers, servers, switches, data voice cabling, PBX’s and telephones in CBC facilities and at remote sites (such as elections, special project events, etc.). Support the technologies related to broadcast production tools, Desktop Audio editing and Desktop Video editing.
- You add new user accounts, grant/remove access rights (full account administration) in a mixed Microsoft/Novell environment and provide excellent desktop support, telephony support, application, server, and LAN support.
What you bring:
- Post secondary college diploma or higher in computer science/engineering with an emphasis on computers, servers, networking systems, related IT infrastructure or equivalent;
- Minimum two years of practical and relevant experience in a complex IT environment with particular emphasis on client service and support;
- Extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN, Microsoft servers, professional certifications (eg: MCSE, CCNA) and some knowledge of Netware Servers and Novell applications are seen as an asset;
- Knowledge of broadcast production tools, audio and video computer edit systems an asset;
- Bilingualism (English/French) an asset;
- Operational support and work on projects may require overtime, shift work, weekends and call back; Experience working on IT projects an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work and contribute in a creative, stressful and fast paced environment;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without constant supervision;
- Demonstrated ability to react quickly and skillfully to immediate challenges in the work environment;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated excellence in client service.
