The opportunity:
You will work as a national reporter responsible for producing reports and conducting in-depth analyses of national/international events and issues . Clearly standing out for your experience, you conduct your research, gather and verify information on issues that are complex and of national interest, while following top stories in the fields covered. You will also present your reports, interviews and analyses live on the air, working closely with a producer.
The position requires an interest in national and regional politics and issues and the proven ability to develop sources and contacts. There is a high expectation that the reporter will produce original journalism and exclusive stories. This position is fully integrated into the Montreal newsroom, participating in meetings and bringing experience and journalistic heft to the regional shop. The National reporter will primarily file for television and radio but he/she may be assigned to file for any CBC news program or platform, regional or Network.
His or her work will adhere to CBC journalistic and programming policies, standards and practices.
CBC News is a 24 hour operation and the successful candidate must be prepared to work evenings and weekends as required.
This is a temporary assignment until February 2011.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent
- Seven (7) years’ journalism experience or the equivalent
- Extensive general knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of current affairs and politics
- Fluent in English
- Bilingual
- Solid command of communication techniques specific to appropriate media
- Knowledge of the Corporation’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
- Must possess a valid drivers license and passport.
