Is Lights travelling with Jian again?
Did she ever say why she was out in LA? All she seemed to do while she was out there was tweet. Did Jian send her out there to look for more coffee houses to play?
She was on vacation. Vacationing in L.A. is the trendy thing to do for Canadian “celebrities” like George Strombolopolos, Jian Ghomeshi and Lights. Plus there’s always the hope that they’ll be “discovered”. George hangs out on Santa Monica Blvd. waiting to be discovered every night. He’s met a few “producers” and had a few “auditions”.
But when they realize that they are small fish in a big L.A. pond, they come back to T.O. to be the big fish in a little pond again.
Their jobs – interviewing celebrities for the CBC – are the only reason why they think that they’re show biz players. No one needs them for anything other than to ask celebrities questions and no one but the CBC wants their services. George, in particular, is NOTHING without the CBC.
So true, without the CBC what can George do ????
He could stand on a street corner with a tin cup and try to impress people with his taste in music and his black t-shirts.
And he also has an amazing ability to look goofy on a motorcycle. That’s gotta be worth something….
Contrast Olivia’s gracious acceptance of a designer’s dress without criticism to Lights’ giving Roxy a hard time (& glad she wasn’t “murdered”). She even says: “I thought I was gonna hate it.” What an ATTITUDE! Lights actually out-bitched Olivia & Roxy!
Roxy should have cut holes in green garbage bag, handed it to Lights, and said “this is probably the look you’re going for, honey”.
Lights and Jian are always trying to get people to give them things. They’re glorified beggars.
Lights Lilith Fair tour dates were being cancelled, which jeopardized Jian’s summer vacation plans. What does Jian do? He schedules a six date acoustic tour of coffeehouses in cities like New York, San Fran & LA. And then on June 23rd he got his Radio Starmaker Fund to pay for it. A free vacation for Jian.
Jian must be wracking his brain trying to find reasons for her to tour and get money from the Fund. This time it’s a “solo” acoustic tour to support a CD that she’ll be giving away at her shows. A “solo” solo synth pop artist doing an acoustic tour for a CD that she’ll be giving away for free!? How the hell did he sell that one to the board!?
Maybe for her next tour she’ll be performing Acapella in support of her next free CD : the “Lights Acapella EP”
Apparently the CD was recorded in the “studio” underneath her loft bed. How can a Juno & Indie award winning artist not afford any studio time?
She can’t be making much money. Her music doesn’t sell so she doesn’t make it from that. And she flies to LA and New York to play coffee houses? I doubt that she’d make enough from the gig to pay for the travel & various other expenses.
I think that a lot of the touring that she does is more for her and Jian’s vanity than anything else. If they didn’t scramble to put together this joke of an acoustic tour, she would only be playing 6 gigs total the entire summer…..which wouldn’t look good for a supposedly “big pop star”.
Last Year in July and August she played 21 shows. This year for July and August she’s booked for 12 shows – six “music festival” gigs and six “Lights Acoustic Coffee House Tour”. It’s shaping up to be a dry summer for Jian-Lights Inc.
Jacketgate also proves that Jian is a big pussy because he’s afraid to come out and say anything about it because he’s afraid of MTV and Kelly.
He was also afraid to advise Lights that it was a bad idea to go on “The City” and be portrayed as a diva.
Jian probably didn’t care how Lights was portrayed as long as he came off ok…which he didn’t. BTW, has he updated his bio on Jian.ca to include “The City” yet?
Jian came off looking like a lonely middle-aged guy being led around by the dick by a manipulative narcissist.
Jian doesn’t care how anyone is portrayed, as long as there is fame & attention & celebrity involved.
Why doesn’t Jian’s bio on his website include his being a Director of the Starmaker Fund?
Karma is a bitch. Lilth just cancelled more dates, including the Montreal show. Maybe instead of throwing designer clothes on the floor, Lights should have been promoting the show.
It easy to go on money losing tours of pubs in Great Britain and Coffee Houses in the U.S. when the Starmaker Fund and Factor cover your losses. Lillith Fair is a casualty of the economic reality of the music industry that Lights herself is oblivious to.
The Jian curse is now the Jian and/or Lights curse. They’re both poison. No coincidence that in the same week that their episode of The City was airing there were rumours running wild that The City was about to be cancelled – which MTV had to publicly deny:

Jacketgate proves that Jian/Lights are living up to the definition of aggressive narcissism, which includes the following traits:
Glibness/superficial charm
Grandiose sense of self-worth
Pathological lying
Cunning/manipulative
Lack of remorse or guilt
Callous/lack of empathy
Failure to accept responsibility for own actions.
Lights should have left her sense of entitlement back at home in Canada. Kelly Cutrone and Whitney Port are not FACTOR and the Radio Starmaker Fund. This ungrateful little bitch is so used to being given everything that now she thinks EVERYONE owes her something.
Here’s what I don’t get (since this is supposed to be a “reality show). Why would anyone agree to wear a designers clothes & then change their mind cause they aren’t comfortable? Does Lights have ADD? If she was smart, Lights would have worn Owl City merch.
She should have been a good sport about it. Would it have killed her to wear a dress on stage? They were doing her a favour by having her on the show, why couldn’t she do them a favour? All she does is take from people. She never gives anything back.
Courtney Love wears dresses on stage, and she is more “rock&roll” than Lights will EVER be…
Check out Lights face while she’s looking at the jacket just before she tries it on. If this is acting, she deserves an Oscar.
Keep in mind – this is a woman who has seen Jian naked. Maybe she’s using a sense memory method approach in that scene.

I saw no difference from Lights on The City to the way that she’s always been. Lights has never been the least bit modest or humble and is incredibly self-absorbed. A quick glance at her Twitter page shows that. Her only concerns are “I, Me, My,”. She’s always exaggerated her “success” and acted like she was a “Big Pop Star” and is still doing so even though she gets money from Factor & Starmaker Fund and her album hasn’t been on the charts since the first week that it came out. She wasn’t even the main attraction at “her show” on The City. It was Owl City’s show.

Why does Lights need to talk about what went down? I saw what went down. She was a total bitch to people that tried to help her in her time of need. She couldn’t have been more disrespectful, rude and un-Canadian if she were born in England of Persian parentage.
Lights’ mentor has taught her alot about using people and manipulating them. She has learned well.

She thinks the jacket is the issue. It’s not. The BIG issue was her attitude. She was arrogant, rude, self-centered, ungrateful and mean, among other things.
Roxy brings her free clothes to her dressing room and she derisively refers to them as “From Le Whitney Show”.
And how many times did she say “It’s important for ME”, “It’s important that I”, in other words “I’m the only one that matters”.
And making faces at Whitney’s designs? How rude.
Lights & Jian are soooo protective of her image, which doesn’t make sense, because she looks like a slob who DOESN’T care about her image.
The tricky part is that neither Jian nor Lights can claim that they were directed or scripted. This is a “reality” show, so we must assume that this is how they really behave.
The Big issue is also that she portrays herself as a cute, sweet girl who likes cartoons. Not!
She blew a big opportunity to impress and gain new fans. She looked like a spoiled brat wannabe rock star diva with a ‘sunglasses wearing indoors’ manager in tow catering to her runaway ego. Even some of her fans were turned off by her. In short : she’s f*cked.

So much for loyalty. One minute, Jian claims to be a patriotic Canadian wishing everyone a Happy Canada Day, the next minute, he can’t wait to go work in the states?
He wouldn’t last 5 minutes on CNN, especially when he would keep reminding everyone he is really British.
I’m sure that CNN would love to have Jian replace Larry King. But they’d have to agree to match or better Jian’s current terms of employment with the CBC :
1) 20+ weeks a year of vacation to travel the world & “manage” his client
2) Frequent guest appearances by friends of Jian’s (+ their wives/girlfriends/clients)
3) Long winded, redundant introductions of well known celebrity guests
4) Pointless opening essay/monologue to showcase Jian’s verbosity
5) Conflict of Interest and Ethics Policy will not apply to Jian
6) If show is canceled due to low ratings, another show must be created for Jian
7) Basically, whatever Jian wants – Jian gets
8) Jian must be able to appear on competing stations (CTV/MTV or NBC/ABC/CBS) with his client with NO consequences
Spot on. It’s hard to remember all of the shite that Jian gets away with. There’s no way in hell a privately run company would let Jian run riot like the CBC has. I guess that’s what happens when a company is allowed to run with little to no accountability.
If Jian wasn’t brown, would he be fired by now for all his flagrant abuse of the basic rules of broadcasting conduct at the CBC?

Lights had to go on MTV’s aftershow for damage control to explain her actions…which says a lot, doesn’t it?
All that Lights and Jian care about now is trying to clear up the jacket incident (as if that was the only misleading thing from that show).
How about Kelly saying that “she’s one of the biggest pop stars in Canada” (not even close)?
Or that the whole episode had the ridiculous premise that Whitney desperately wanted “big pop star Lights” to wear her clothes on stage (at a concert where in reality she played for just 30 minutes as one of two opening acts for Owl City).
Jian and Lights have no problem lying or having people lie for them. They only have a problem when it doesn’t benefit them.
on the aftershow, she says she lost her daybag & needed clothes. most reasonable go out & buy something. she could have even made a cute outfit out of her merch with some safety pins if she had a little imagination.
Having lived around Lights & run into her a few times, I can say that diva attitude is for real.

From what I watched, Jian was only in one scene and it was the scene where Lights was trying on clothes. He was obviously trying hard to come up with things to say but he just ended up sounding moronic : “I mean it looks sort of leather?” EEP!!!
Jian ruined that scene by babbling like an idiot throughout it. It was annoying and distracting. The director should have told him to GTF out of there so that the audience could focus on Roxy and Lights and what was happening in the scene.
Jian gives away that he knows the storyline of the show when he says “Wear a jacket..that you take off..and wa-wa-wear one of those..t-shirts”
BTW, Does Jian stutter like that on radio too?
First Jian says he wants to see Light’s tattoos, then he suggests wearing a jacket? What? Dude has ADD!

I think so. They’ll certainly be a few jokes at Jian & Lights expense at the next Radio Starmaker Fund Board of Directors meeting when Jian makes his case for why a “big pop star” like Lights needs funding.
Roxy and Whitney were probably happy when Jian left town. I’m sure they were both nauseous after having a middle aged Iranian man “flirt” with them all weekend.
It looks like Roxy was avoiding eye contact with Jian in that scene at the clothing rack. I take it that means that she was already disgusted by him at that point.
Roxy was probably thinking “if Kelly didn’t want Jian to do her, I wouldn’t have to be here dealing with these low-rent schmoozers who are mooching off of Whitney & me!”

On the show, Ke$ha (a REAL pop star) is professional & easy to work with. LIGHTS comes off as a diva (no! I won’t wear your clothes! they aren’t rock & roll enough for me!).
