What’s the role?

CBC/Radio-Canada is looking for a dynamic individual to join the Human Resources team at Shared Services. Established in October 2003, Shared Services provides a one-stop shop for all the Information Technology, Human Resources and Finance transactional and administrative support needs within the corporation.

As the HR Administrator, you will provide high-quality, punctual one-stop service to employees and managers in all aspects of human resources administration. You will keep staff and supervisors informed and provide them with the information they request, and find solutions to problems that are presented to you. You will also oversee the various conditions of benefit plans, compensation and payroll programs, leave, policies and collective agreements, which you shall also explain to employees as you ensure their understanding of the procedures to be followed in carrying out human resources transactions.

Based in Ottawa, you will:

  • Respond to information requests and/or calls for assistance, received over the phone and/or in writing, regarding your area of responsability ((illness, benefits, compensation, end of employment, leave and programs as governed by policies, procedures and collective agreements) in both official languages.
  • Analyze requests, conduct research and take necessary action or redirect as required to on-site consultant teams, specialists, experts or other outside agencies.
  • Advise employees and inform them of the application of guidelines to ensure accuracy and adherence to deadlines and keep staff and management informed about procedures by putting the right tools at their disposal.
  • Keep abreast of changes to government regulations concerning wages and benefits as they apply to policies and collective agreements through various means (training, manuals, research, and communications),
  • Instruct employees on the use of the various tools at their disposal
    Manage files related to your area of repsonsability and see to their follow-up as needed (illness, work-related injury, unpaid leave, parental leave and so on)
    Provide support to Manager, HR Administation and coordinate the work assigned to the group on a daily basis.
  • You will work closely with other members of the Shared Services Organization to ensure proper coordination of transactions and case processing.
  • You will also work in tandem with the HR offices, Industrial Relations and expertise offices, to supply accurate information and keep the Human Resources departments up to date.

If you are the ideal candidate, you will bring:

  • Minimum 3 years related experience.
  • Oral and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French) are essential
  • In-depth knowledge of human resources subjects, policies and processes, payroll technologies, collective agreements, as well as an understanding of federal and provincial legislation
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada’s organizational structure as well as the broadcast industry (radio and television) is a definite asset
  • Experience in the use of case management systems
  • Poven experience in the use of HRIS
  • Knowledge of policy and procedural developments, as well as various HR-related activities, in order to give effective advice
  • Creative thinking as you deal with problems and find solutions that meet established qualitative and quantitative criteria, and show initiative in meeting daily requirements
  • Tact, diplomacy and discretion
  • High level of concentration, as most exchanges are conducted over the phone, and all cases must be documented simultaneously
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and respond to a number of requests within strict deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of focus and be able to analyze and synthesize situations as they occur
  • Good judgment at all times and be able to work independently, taking initiative as needed
