The Lang and O’Leary Exchange is CBC’s flagship business show. Amanda Lang and Kevin O’Leary take on the day’s top business stories – and each other – in this fast-paced programme. Everyday they brings viewers perspective, players and lots of personality.

*Please note that this is a contract position.

What You Do:

As a Producer, you will help to plan, conceive, organize, and/or develop the daily production of the Lang And O’Leary Exchange. Your work must adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices. Nevertheless, there is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity.

Key Tasks:

  • Conceive and develop program ideas and concepts.
  • Chase guests for the programme; high-level, big names as well as people with expertise/insight in various matters related to business
  • Prepare scripts and help to prepare programme’s presentation elements
  • Identify, develop and maintain contacts with experts/analysts in financial industry

What You Bring:

  • A university degree or equivalent with five years’ experience of which three must be directly related to business journalism.
  • In depth knowledge of business, markets, economic principles
  • Demonstrated ability to chase high-level business guests
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high pressure, tight-deadline environment
  • Experience with programme development
  • Understanding of the technical and studio requirements for producing a programme
  • Experience in writing, vetting/editing scripts for broadcast, and producing presentation elements
  • Knowledge of CBC and CBC NN programmes and mandates and CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Available to work overtime as required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent team building skills
  • Must be a creative thinker with a flair for developing new, exciting ways to treat and cover business stories
  • Innovative, flexible and must be a self starter
  • Must be able to solve problems independently and in group discussions
  • Open to new ideas and approaches
