Your Role:

We are looking for a seasoned producer to work on C’est ça la vie, a daily, 1-hour, live show produced in Ottawa. The show was created to reflect Canada’s vitality by introducing passionate and inspiring people and discovering new and interesting places and phenomenons. The show provides an open window for viewers on the richness, challenges and distinctive features of French-speaking life in all parts of Canada.

As an producer, you will help set program objectives, develop content, arrange the participation of interviewees, creative staff and other contributors, as well as perform production and administrative duties. Naturally, you will be working in a stimulating, demanding environment where teamwork is both essential and rewarding.

As Producer, you plan, conceive, organize and develop selected program segments. You help prepare program objectives and develop program content. Your specific duties include choosing interview topics, assigning researchers, supervising their work, reviewing and approving their research reports, supervising the weekly planning chart, briefing the host, editing program continuity, and occasionally writing ad copy. You must also be in the control room during program presentation, making the editorial decisions required to produce a live broadcast. You must ensure that your team adheres to the allocated budget for talent fees and guest travel expenses.

What you bring:

  • University degree or equivalent;
  • Five years of experience of which three must involve work in broadcasting or a closely related industry, which is directly related to the area of assignment;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a news room, including one as a producer;
  • Good technical and production skills;
  • Knowledge of iNews, Avid, Dalet + and Sonart is considered an asset;
  • Fluency in French, spoken and written; functional bilingualism (French/English) required;
  • Extensive general knowledge;
  • Excellent understanding of the show’s mandate;
  • Capable of uncovering orginal Canadian stories;
  • Good judgement in selecting guest for the show;
  • Autonomous, Initiative;
  • Curiosity;
  • Capacity to summarize ideas;
  • Ability to generate creative production ideas;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work well on a team;
  • Ability to create and maintain a network of professional contacts;
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Keen interest in other broadcasting platforms, such as radio and the Web;
  • Willingness to work varying shifts and overtime.
