C’est ça la vie, a daily network television cultural magazine produced in Ottawa is searching for a person to fill the position of host. It is an 8 month contract position, from August 2010 to March 2011. The successful candidate will have experience as a network or regional television program host. Radio experience is an asset.

The goal of this program is to present people from all regions who value and promote the socio-cultural vitality of the country. The program focuses on regions, situations, historical facts and social tendencies that are worth discovering, and will peak the viewer’s curiosity, astonishment and emotion. The successful candidate will embody the program’s values and objectives and will have an excellent knowledge of all regions of the country.

Your Role:

  • On a continuing and regular basis, performs a leading role in one or more regional or national programs on radio or television.
  • Performs a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and on-air presentation of program material on radio and/or television.
  • The Host can be involved in the development and execution of the program and the direction of the program can often be influenced by his/her specialized knowledge and performance capabilities.
  • Work is governed by CBC programming and/or journalistic policies and standards but there is a requirement for creativity, initiative and independent judgment.

Activities:

  • Contributes to the planning, design and organization of program within the context that the program is typically highly formatted; ensures the preparation of material for broadcast.
  • May assume production responsibility for a program or segments of a program.
  • Proposes program ideas, suggests and lines up guests or interviewees, prepares background notes and questions, interviews on or off air, and provides narration and linking continuity between program segments.
  • Interacts extemporaneously with program participants such as guests and interviewees, members of the audience and phone-in callers.
  • Maintains his/her subject matter expertise in fields relevant to the focus of the program(s).
  • Participates in public and/or community relations activities as appropriate, to promote the program(s) and/or the Corporation.

As required, performs the following tasks:

  • Act as master of ceremonies, narrator or interviewer on variety, quiz, disc or other programs;
  • Voice continuity for programs;
  • Conduct research using a variety of sources;
  • Edit program material;
  • As required, may perform any other task associated with the function of Announcer.

What you bring:

  • University degree in a relevant field or the equivalent
  • Relevant experience as a network or regional television program host
  • Extensive general knowledge
  • Fluency in French, spoken and written; functional bilingualism (French/English) required
  • Excelent communicator
  • Ability to generate creative production ideas
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well on a team
  • Ability to create and maintain a network of professional contacts
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Keen interest in other broadcasting platforms, such as radio and the Web.
  • Radio experience is an asset
  • Willingness to work varying shifts and overtime
