What You Do:

As a Scheduler/Validator, you will provide specialized administrative and clerical support to CBC News English Television. You will be responsible for assigning and scheduling technical and/or non-technical staff of CBC News, and for developing and maintaining schedules as well as validating employee claims in ScheduALL.

Key Tasks:

  • Develops schedules in ScheduALL ensuring adherence to Collective Agreement, corporate policies, procedures and departmental practices
  • Receives and analyzes requests for production resources against availability of staff, their skills, experience and leave requests
  • Determines and implements effective means of accommodating emergency requests and changes in production needs
  • Liaises with production areas to identify potential staff shortages and with the Executive Producer or Supervising Technician arranges appropriate familiarization and skills upgrading for staff
  • Updates ScheduALL on a daily basis to capture changes and ensures that schedule revisions are posted within the Collective Agreement’s guidelines
  • Collects annual leave plans in accordance with the Collective Agreement and posts approved leave schedules
  • Responsible for validating all exceptions listed on the Schedules To Pay Tuesday Manager’s email and Short Term employee timecards
  • File weekly timecards; audits for proper completion by employee and authorization by appropriate parties.
  • Verifies that hours are correctly sent from ScheduALL to TCS and corrects inputting errors as required
  • Responsible for retrieving cost allocations from CBC News Unit Managers and make appropriate changes in ScheduALL
  • As directed by Shared Services or the ScheduALL Co-ordinator, responsible for resolving items identified on the Safety Net Report in respect of Pay or Cost Revisions
  • Prepares regular or ad hoc reports extracted from ScheduALL. (Timecards, leave reports, outstanding timecard reports, usage reports, etc)
  • Assists with familiarization of new staff in departmental routines and practices.
  • Provides guidance to new staff on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provide interpretation and/or clarification to employees, managers and/or clients regarding policies and procedures within area of expertise.
  • May be required to work overtime and/or shifts.

What You Bring:

  • Graduation from Community College or the equivalent, preferably in a related field such as Television production or Computer Science
  • Minimum two years of experience, including scheduling experience in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated experience of ScheduALL and TCS and understanding of how ScheduALL interconnect with other systems used by CBC is preferred
  • Experience in user/Costumer support is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with computers and Microsoft Office is essential
  • Working knowledge of GroupWise, iNEWS, Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent knowledge of CMG Collective Agreement
  • Knowledge of Radio and Television production is an asset
  • Ability to work in a high pressure, tight deadline environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbally and on the phone
  • Excellent organizational skills establishing priorities and maintaining focus with competing priorities.
  • Proven analytical skills to be able to effectively and efficiently schedule resources while being consistent with anticipated costs, collective agreement rules, and corporate policies
  • Ability to efficiently multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to learn new software without formal training
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail
  • Team player
