CBC Calgary is looking for a Part Time Temporary Associate Producer with strong journalistic skills and sense of audience to join their afternoon show the Homestretch.
Under the supervision of the Senior Producer, you will be assigned as show director with the following responsibilities:
- Direct in studio as required.
- Generate appropriate content for PM show such as news-driven stories, stories that reflect the community and production of self-contained promos.
- Help execute program development plan to help team meet show goals.
- Support audience building strategies via cross promotion with other CBC shows, outreach events and generation of community stories that engage the audience.
- Create and have input into production techniques (SFX, music, stings, packaged items).
- Vet and edit other team members’ work as well as vetting/editing reporter contributions to the program.
- Responsible for some program support tasks such as line-up, music clearance and other functions as required.
What you bring:
- Journalistic background – university degree or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated programming skills, including a good sense of flow of a radio current affairs program.
- Demonstrated story chasing skills with confidence to chase developing stories
- Demonstrated journalistic skills and news judgment.
- Demonstrated team skills: ability to work in a team environment while being a self-starter.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to organize your own time as well as others.
- Demonstrated knowledge of afternoon audience needs.
- Knowledge of Calgary and city issues is an asset.
- Valid drivers license.
- Computer and Internet savvy.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Proven communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- Strong writing skills – specifically for current affairs radio.
- On-air skills an asset for future opportunities.
- Leadership potential.
